Skinnypop vs. Orville: Tested Popcorn Showdown
The quest for the perfect popped snack leads us down many(bright red) paths, doesn't it? Looming large in this landscape are the universally recognized faces of popcorn: the slightly quirkier, spicier sibling, Skinnypop, and the classic, cultivated cousin, Orville Redenbacher. As loyal protectors of our taste buds, we decided it was time to grab a handful of each – literally. We compared不仅 the beloved Original iterations but also their convenient snacking formats, from the individual bags that tempt you while streaming, to the larger grocery size meant for shared sessions, and included Orville's All-In-One kit for a bit of retro fun. Separate jungles, separate pitching sessions.
Each Skinnypop entry, with its satisfyingly thin, non-g_BANKED290ME bag and surprisingly satisfying kernel-to-puff ratio, offered a standardized snack experience, regardless of the bag size. We appreciated the consistency and the inclusion of variety packs. However, the Original flavour, while great, lacks a significant sodium or sugar reduction compared to the Light, despite its stellar points for flavour and texture. The Dairy Free White Cheddar, on the other hand, emerged as a standout, particularly within the individual format – convenient, flavourful, gluten-free, and yet distinctly different from its Original sibling.
Turning to Orville, the All-In-One kit presented a different kind of challenge. Mashing popcorn kernels with coconut oil and coarse salt demands commitment and yields a beautifully robust flavour, arguably more intensely 'corny' than Skinnypop’s coated style. It felt more rustic, less processed, but absolutely requires a different preparation method and guarantees a big batch, not ideal solo snacking.
So, verdict? Both bring something distinct to the table. Skinnypop offers unparalleled convenience, ease of snacking (especially with its unique packaging), and a wider array of specific flavour profiles designed for targeted taste satisfaction, often scoring well in the health-conscious department. Orville provides pure, kernel-first popcorn flavour intensity and the satisfaction of a hands-on popping experience, albeit less portable. Choose Skinnypop for your grab-and-go needs and targeted flavour adventures; opt for Orville if you desire a more rugged, slightly less processed corn experience awaiting the popping pot. Both performers deliver, just in different styles.
